Data Center & Service Outage [RESOLVED]

Insights regarding the recent downtime to our infrastructure

We want to provide some insight about a service disruption that recently occurred. Our website and services began experiencing intermittent outages, and we immediately contacted our data center to investigate. Upon inspection, they discovered multiple hard drives had failed, likely due to an electrical short. It is extremely rare for multiple drives to fail simultaneously, which caused the outage to escalate quickly.

 

Although our team has robust backup procedures both on-site and off-site, the severity of this issue—losing multiple drives at once—required a more intensive recovery process. Our system stores terabytes of data, and restoring it involved significant effort. Unfortunately, our on-site backups were corrupted due to the nature of the drive failures, and we had to rely on off-site backups to restore service. No one wants to experience problems like this, but we are so thankful that we have aggressive data retention in place, and for having backups of our backups.

 

We understand the inconvenience and impact this outage has caused, and we sincerely apologize for any disruptions to your service. We are currently reviewing our backup protocols to determine if any improvements can be made to prevent a similar situation in the future. While this was an extraordinarily rare occurrence, we are considering additional measures, including clustered servers across the USA, to improve uptime and ensure better resilience in case of unforeseen issues.
